Ñ At its November meeting, the Central
Indiana Section hosted guest speaker
Mark Adams, Midwest Regional Sales
Manager for Magnaflux. Adams, who has
been with Magnaflux since November
2023 and has over 25 years of experi-
ence in the NDT industry, delivered a
presentation on current and future tech-
nological developments in magnetic
particle testing (MT), his favorite method.
He also highlighted the value of incorpo-
rating databases and their role in remote
data retrieval, monitoring, program setup,
training, and audits. Adams noted that
while MT equipment is built to last indef-
initely, the continued use of older equip-
ment is preventing MT from entering into
NDT 4.0.

Ñ Guest speaker Dustin Davis from RDI
Technologies spoke at the Iowa Section’s
December meeting. Davis presented to
11 professional and student attendees,
and provided an overview of RDI’s propri-
etary Motion Amplification inspection
technique. He explained how their soft-
ware, paired with a high-speed camera,
can detect minute movements—down to
1 × 10–5 in. under ideal conditions and
reliably to 0.001 in., which are invisible to
the naked eye. This technology has been
applied across industries such as manu-
facturing, oil &gas, electronic component
production, and infrastructure moni-
toring, enabling continuous monitoring
of machines or structures under normal
operating conditions. Davis demonstrated
how each pixel of the camera acts as a
sensor, allowing users to quantify displace-
ment, vibration frequency, and motion
phase.

Ñ The Saudi Arabian Section held its
fourth technical dinner meeting for the
2024–2025 program year at Novotel
Dammam. The meeting was inau-
gurated by Past President Abdullah
M. Al-Khalifah, with the support of all
section board members. Attendees
included members, guests, and repre-
sentatives from the group’s sponsoring
company, Al Othman Co., along with
Eddyfi Technologies. Guest speaker
Paul Hillman, Solutions Development
Expert at Eddyfi, gave a presentation
titled “WeldXprt™ Next Generation
AUT System for Pipeline Girth Weld
Examination.” The event concluded with
a lively Q&A session moderated by
Al-Khalifah.

At the Saudi Arabian Section’s meeting last December, Paul Hillman from Eddyfi Technologies spoke with attendees about Eddyfi’s
latest AUT (automated ultrasonic testing) software designed to streamline the rapid inspection of pipeline girth welds both onshore
and offshore. The system accommodates multiple inspection techniques that can be performed independently or simultaneously in
a multi-channel setup, enabling the collection of all relevant data in a single pass of the weld.

ADVANCED IMAGING
FOR NDT CONFERENCE
In a world driven by technological evolu-
tion, the NDT industry is soaring to
new heights, unlocking unprecedented
insights into materials and structures with
the fusion of advanced imaging, artificial
intelligence (AI), and machine learning
(ML). Over the years, Digital Imaging for
NDT, now Advanced Imaging for NDT,
has been a key link between users and
suppliers. ASNT is seeking presenta-
tions and speakers for the Advanced
Imaging for NDT 2025 Conference to be
held 20–22 May 2025 in Virginia Beach,
Virginia.

TECHNICAL FOCUS
ISSUE: NDT/E FOR
ELECTRIC VEHICLES
The rapid disruptive shift from internal
combustion engine to battery elec-
tric vehicles (EVs) necessitates new
nondestructive testing and evaluation
(NDT/E) inspection techniques to ensure
first-time quality. This special issue of
Materials Evaluation, to be published
in January 2026, aims to consolidate
research activities related to EV and EV
component inspection. Many EV compo-
nents necessitate quality inspection
techniques that must operate under a
demanding set of constraints, including
extremely fast cycle times, noncontact,
materials with small geometric scales,
and conductive materials. We invite
submissions that explore advancements
in NDT/E technology and methodologies
for EVs and EV components, including
battery cells/packs/modules, electric
motors, and electric motor components.
Papers focusing on inline manufacturing
techniques are particularly welcome.
Process monitoring techniques are
also welcome. The goal is to showcase
cutting-edge research that pushes the
boundaries of NDT/E, ensuring first-time
quality of EVs.
Each paper accepted will be assigned
a DOI number. Technical Focus Issues
of Materials Evaluation are open access,
ensuring high visibility for your paper.
Accepted papers are also exempt from
publication fees.
Deadline: 15 June 2025
Publication Date: January 2026
Submission Process: Submitted
papers should not be under consider-
ation for publication elsewhere. Before
submission, send a short abstract or
tentative title to Technical Editor Megan
McGovern, PhD, PE, Staff Researcher
for General Motors Research and
Development, megan.mcgovern@
gm.com.
