PROMOTING THE FUTURE
OF NDT INSPECTORS
In an effort to inspire and nurture the next generation of nondestructive testing (NDT) profes-
sionals, a free training event was held at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores
de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico. A total of 120 students were awarded scholar-
ships to participate in an intensive training program focused on NDT inspection of welds.
The event, held over 10 Saturdays, also marked the establishment of a student chapter
named 5G-RAMS, affiliated with the American Welding Society (AWS). This initiative aimed
to provide students with firsthand experience in NDT and its applications in welding. The
program emphasized the importance of certification processes and career development for
future professionals.
The program offered participants a deep dive into essential NDT techniques, including visual
inspection, liquid penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, and ultrasonic testing, all tailored
for the inspection of welds. A strong emphasis was placed on hands-on practice, equipping
students with the skills and confidence to apply these techniques in real-world scenarios. For
many students, this event served as a gateway to explore career opportunities in inspection
and to understand the critical role of NDT in ensuring safety and quality across industries.
