The agenda included the Section’s monthly meeting and the introduction of honored special guest ASNT President Danny Keck, who gave a presentation of ASNT’s five- year plan for growth and improvement. Outgoing Section Chair Rod Stephens was also recognized. After the Section meeting, members and guests enjoyed a shrimp boil dinner prepared by longtime Charlotte Section member Bob Smilie. The event was hosted and sponsored by FlawTech. GREATER HOUSTON H O U S T O N , T X 15 S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 2 3 5 AT T E N D I N G Ñ The Greater Houston Section hosted a “student hour” to introduce local NDE students to the NDE industry outside of the classroom. The following members donated their time to speak to the group: Section Chair Stacy Cotie, Samuel (Roger) Jordan, and Xavier Quintanilla. Students attended from the following schools: San Jacinto College, Ocean Corp., Lone Star College, and North Harris Community College. Cotie covered the benefits of being part of a professional society such as ASNT, both at the local and national level. Jordan discussed his personal career in the NDT industry and the awards and scholarships that the Section offers to students and technicians. Quintanilla discussed and presented his career path on becoming an expert in the robotics field within the inspection industry. The speakers were Board members, who introduced themselves and described their background, title, and tasks for the 2022–2023 program year. Duke, Jr., visited to deliver a presenta- tion on areas of emphasis for the Society and to hear feedback from the Section. Section Chair Nicholas Wennberg reviewed the events of the summer with interest to the Section and thanked some individuals for their help in attaining the Gold ranking in ASNT’s President’s Award program, particularly Treasurer Lisa Barony and Dr. Deonna Woolard for producing the annual yearbook. TIMOTHY ARMITT 2022 ASNT Fellow Timothy Armitt is the managing director of Lavender International Non-Destructive Testing Consultancy Services Ltd., UK, and founder/president of Lavender International Non-Destructive Testing USA LLC. He has over 42 years’ experi- ence in NDT, including 40 years with UT, 27 years with time of flight diffraction (TOFD), and 20 years with phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) ranging across petrochemical, chemical, nuclear, fossil fuel and renewable power generation, naval ships and submarines, aerospace, automotive, and rail industries. Armitt has initiated and led the development of new technologies and training programs. He has also led the development of the Lavender Sample Library in Houston, a collection of genuine service-damaged samples collected from donors when a plant is retired from service, secured for practical experience for students. Armitt has also been involved in research and develop- ment initiatives, including managing the Joint Industry Project (JIP) study, which investigated the effectiveness of NDT in detecting high-temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA). He has also been involved in the creation and development of novel inspection applications, such as the TULA probe and LIMBO TOFD solution. Armitt is a fellow of BINDT and the Institute of Condition Monitoring. He has been a keynote speaker, author, and presenter of more than 70 papers/presentations at international conferences. STEVEN BRADY 2022 ASNT Fellow Steven Brady, PhD, is a physicist at the Boeing Company. He has been researching and developing NDT devices and methods since 2004 and holds more than 25 patents in the field. Brady thrives on developing inspec- tion technologies from the lab all the way through to production implementation in the transportation sector, where they can help to create a safer world. Brady has been active in ASNT for many years and serves on the Board of the Pacific Northwest Section. He has presented at regional, national, and international NDT conferences, and published and refereed articles in the field. JOCELYN LANGLOIS 2022 ASNT Fellow Jocelyn A. Langlois’s involvement in ASNT started in 1994 and continues to this day. She is an ASNT Past President and a Lifetime Member of ASNT. After attending the International Ultrasound Institute in Dallas, Texas, and working for a time in the medical ultra- sonics field, Langlois enrolled in the NDT school in Pasco, Washington. She began working at Sigma Transducers in 1988 doing testing, which morphed into testing and design. In 2000, she became presi- dent of the company. Although currently semi-retired, Langlois still produces the occasional transducer while working with young people with special needs at the local school district and participating in STEM outreach days. In 2019, she was awarded the ASNT Recognition for the Advancement of Women in NDT. ROMAN GR. MAEV 2022 ASNT Fellow Roman Gr. Maev PhD, is the founding Director-General of the Institute for Diagnostic Imaging Research, University of Windsor—a multidisciplinary, collaborative research AWARDS&HONORS | SCOPE ABOUT THE FELLOW OF ASNT AWARD A Fellow of ASNT is an individual member of the Society who is of outstanding professional distinction and who has made continued significant contributions to the advancement of NDE/NDT.
