and innovation consortium—and a Distinguished University Professor. The diverse range of disciplines encompassed by Maev includes theo- retical fundamentals of physical acous- tics, research in ultrasonic and nonlinear acoustical imaging, and nanostructural properties of advanced materials and its analysis. One of his research directions is focused on the development of advanced nondestructive methods and NDE equipment. He has published nearly 600 peer-reviewed items, including 25 books and chapters in books, and has 42 issued patents and 20 patents pending (filed). Maev is a recipient of many interna- tional awards. He is a Fellow of IEEE, as well as a Distinguished IEEE Lecturer a Fellow of the British Institute of NDT (BINDT) a Fellow of CINDE and a Fellow of RSNTTD. In 2012 he was awarded the Research Award for Sustained Excellence by ASNT. In 2018, Maev was the recipient of The Roy Sharpe Award in recognition for his outstanding contribution to NDT by BINDT. Following, in 2021, he received the ASNT Mentoring Award. He is also a member of both the ASNT Research and Engineering Councils. PIERVINCENZO RIZZO 2022 ASNT Fellow Piervincenzo Rizzo, PhD, earned a Laurea (five-year degree equivalent to a MS) in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Palermo, Italy. He earned a MS and a PhD in Structural Engineering in 2002 and 2004, respectively, from the University of California, San Diego. He is a Full Professor at the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, where he founded the Laboratory for Nondestructive Evaluation and Structural Health Monitoring studies. Rizzo’s research interests are in NDE and structural health monitoring (SHM), using stress waves and thermography. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Federal Railroad Administration, the National Academies of Science, TTCI, and ASNT, as well as internal grants from the University of Pittsburgh. Rizzo was the recipient of the 2002 ASNT Fellowship Award, the 2007 ASNT Faculty Grant Award, the 2009, 2015, and 2019 ASNT Fellowship Research Award, and two ASNT Outstanding Paper Awards (in 2013 and 2017). To date, he has authored 104 refereed papers, 8 book chapters, and 170+ conference proceedings, abstracts, and technical reports. He is the first person who has received both the Achenbach Medal (in 2012) and the SHM Person of the Year Award (in 2015). JOSEPH A. TURNER 2022 ASNT Fellow Joseph A. Turner, PhD, is currently the Robert W. Brightfelt Professor of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and Director of the Nano- Engineering Research Core Facility (NERCF) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). He received his BS (Eng. Sci.) and MEng (Eng. Sci. Mech.) degrees from Iowa State University and his PhD (Theoretical and Appl. Mech.) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). After a postdoctoral experience at UIUC, he served as an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow at the Fraunhofer Institute for Nondestructive Testing (IZFP) in Saarbrücken, Germany, before joining UNL. He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and recipient of the Wilhelm Bessel Forschungspreis from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The expertise within his QUISP (Quantitative Ultrasonics for Inspection and Structural Prognosis) group is focused on ultrasonic inspection and microstructure characterization. Their research is important for the safety of manufactured components and has been applied to aerospace materials, railroad track and rolling stock, and additive manu- facturing of metals among others. Turner is currently an Associate Technical Editor of Research in Nondestructive Evaluation and serves as the chair of the ASNT Publications Committee of the Research Council. Kaitlyn Grantner has joined ASNT as an Instructional Designer. Grantner has experience working within learning and devel- opment for a tier-one automotive manufacturer and most recently an association serving finance profes- sionals. She completed her MS in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning through Boise State University. Grantner currently lives in Kentucky with her husband and a variety of animals. She enjoys showing her dogs, reading, and a variety of outdoor activities. AcousticEye Ltd., a provider of noninvasive tube inspection for the global heat exchanger and boiler NDT (nondestructive testing) markets, announced that Howard Houserman has joined the company’s advisory board. A prominent figure in the NDT industry with extensive experience, particularly in the nuclear power generation field, Houserman was Past President, CEO, and Chairman of Zetec Inc., a worldwide vendor of eddy current and ultrasonic testing equipment. Prior to his long tenure at Zetec, which also included management of field operations, Houserman worked at Westinghouse as a lead engineer for steam generator inspections. APPOINTMENTS ASNT member Andy Shingledecker has started a new position with Campos EPC as the area manager for a new loca- tion coming to Tulsa, OK. Omar Saad has started a new position as sales engineer at Integrity Scientific & Laboratory Equipment in Dubai, UAE. PEOPLEWATCH | SCOPE Do you have news you’d like to share with the NDT community?
