The LLC will function under a Board of Managers appointed by the ASNT Board of Directors, composed of ASNT Board members and Society members. The inaugural Board of Managers for the LLC is: l John J. Kinsey, President l Danny L. Keck, Vice President l John Z. Chen, Ph.D., Chair of Finance Committee l Joseph L. Mackin, Chair of Certifications Committee l Paul E. Deeds, Jr., Chair of Accreditations Committee l Stacy Cotie, Chair of Strategic Management Committee l Neal J. Couture, CAE, ASNT Executive Director With more than 33 000 certifications issued to NDT profes- sionals around the world, ASNT currently administers four certifi- cation programs: ASNT NDT Level III, ASNT NDT Level II, ASNT Central Certification Program (ACCP), and Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safety Personnel (IRRSP). “The LLC will separate the certifications and accreditations services from ASNT, which will protect the Society’s financial liability overall. It also helps us achieve operational independence for our training and publication services,” said ASNT Certification Services LLC President Kinsey. “Other certifying bodies are moving in the same direction by also separating their certifications and accreditations from their other missions. With the LLC, we are keenly focused on ASNT’s future success.” The LLC will also provide oversight for ASNT’s Employer-Based Certification (EBC) Audit Program and the Industry Sector Qualification Oil & Gas (ISQ O&G) program. “ASNT has long been one of the most trusted names in NDT, which is why we are looking ahead to take the EBC program global and plan to grow the ISQ program along with ISO 9712–compliant certifica- tions,” said Keck, ASNT Certification Services LLC vice president. The ASNT Certification Services LLC Board of Managers and ASNT staff will continue to work together to ensure the seamless delivery of certification and accreditation programs. The launch of a new ASNT Certification Services website will be announced soon. w society news Termiology Proper Usage of NDT Terminology To ensure proper usage of NDT terminology, ASNT would like to remind readers that the following terms should be used when referring to the certification status of NDT personnel. l Personnel certified by examination by their employer (or through contracted examination agencies or training facili- ties other than ASNT) should be listed as being “certified in accordance with Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A.” In addition, employer certified Level IIIs may be called “Level IIIs.” l Personnel certified by ASNT examination may be referred to as being “ASNT certified” and may be called by the proper name “ASNT NDT Level II or Level III.” l Personnel certified through the ASNT Central Certification Program (ACCP) may be said to be “ASNT certified” or, more properly, to have been certified as an “ACCP Level II” or “ACCP Professional Level III.” Adherence to these simple distinctions will reduce confusion in the industry.
