Armitt has initiated and led the development of new technologies and training programs. He has also led the development of the Lavender Sample Library in Houston, a collection of genuine service-damaged samples collected from donors when a plant is retired from service, secured for practical experience for students. Armitt has also been involved in research and develop- ment initiatives, including managing the Joint Industry Project (JIP) study, which investigated the effectiveness of NDT in detecting high-temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA). He has also been involved in the creation and development of novel inspection applications, such as the TULA probe and LIMBO TOFD solution. Armitt is a fellow of BINDT and the Institute of Condition Monitoring. He has been a keynote speaker, author, and presenter of more than 70 papers/presentations at international conferences. STEVEN BRADY 2022 ASNT Fellow Steven Brady, PhD, is a physicist at the Boeing Company. He has been researching and developing NDT devices and methods since 2004 and holds more than 25 patents in the field. Brady thrives on developing inspec- tion technologies from the lab all the way through to production implementation in the transportation sector, where they can help to create a safer world. Brady has been active in ASNT for many years and serves on the Board of the Pacific Northwest Section. He has presented at regional, national, and international NDT conferences, and published and refereed articles in the field. JOCELYN LANGLOIS 2022 ASNT Fellow Jocelyn A. Langlois’s involvement in ASNT started in 1994 and continues to this day. She is an ASNT Past President and a Lifetime Member of ASNT. After attending the International Ultrasound Institute in Dallas, Texas, and working for a time in the medical ultra- sonics field, Langlois enrolled in the NDT school in Pasco, Washington. She began working at Sigma Transducers in 1988 doing testing, which morphed into testing and design. In 2000, she became presi- dent of the company. Although currently semi-retired, Langlois still produces the occasional transducer while working with young people with special needs at the local school district and participating in STEM outreach days. In 2019, she was awarded the ASNT Recognition for the Advancement of Women in NDT. ROMAN GR. MAEV 2022 ASNT Fellow Roman Gr. Maev PhD, is the founding Director-General of the Institute for Diagnostic Imaging Research, University of Windsor—a multidisciplinary, collaborative research AWARDS&HONORS | SCOPE ABOUT THE FELLOW OF ASNT AWARD A Fellow of ASNT is an individual member of the Society who is of outstanding professional distinction and who has made continued significant contributions to the advancement of NDE/NDT. and innovation consortium—and a Distinguished University Professor. The diverse range of disciplines encompassed by Maev includes theo- retical fundamentals of physical acous- tics, research in ultrasonic and nonlinear acoustical imaging, and nanostructural properties of advanced materials and its analysis. One of his research directions is focused on the development of advanced nondestructive methods and NDE equipment. He has published nearly 600 peer-reviewed items, including 25 books and chapters in books, and has 42 issued patents and 20 patents pending (filed). Maev is a recipient of many interna- tional awards. He is a Fellow of IEEE, as well as a Distinguished IEEE Lecturer a Fellow of the British Institute of NDT (BINDT) a Fellow of CINDE and a Fellow of RSNTTD. In 2012 he was awarded the Research Award for Sustained Excellence by ASNT. In 2018, Maev was the recipient of The Roy Sharpe Award in recognition for his outstanding contribution to NDT by BINDT. Following, in 2021, he received the ASNT Mentoring Award. He is also a member of both the ASNT Research and Engineering Councils. PIERVINCENZO RIZZO 2022 ASNT Fellow Piervincenzo Rizzo, PhD, earned a Laurea (five-year degree equivalent to a MS) in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Palermo, Italy. He earned a MS and a PhD in Structural Engineering in 2002 and 2004, respectively, from the University of California, San Diego. He is a Full Professor at the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, where he founded the Laboratory for Nondestructive Evaluation and Structural Health Monitoring studies. Rizzo’s research interests are in NDE and structural health monitoring (SHM), using stress waves and thermography. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Federal Railroad Administration, the National Academies of Science, TTCI, and ASNT, as well as internal grants from the University of Pittsburgh. Rizzo was the recipient of the 2002 ASNT Fellowship Award, the 2007 ASNT Faculty Grant Award, the 2009, 2015, and 2019 ASNT Fellowship Research Award, and two ASNT Outstanding Paper Awards (in 2013 and 2017). To date, he has authored 104 refereed papers, 8 book chapters, and 170+ conference proceedings, abstracts, and technical reports. He is the first person who has received both the Achenbach Medal (in 2012) and the SHM Person of the Year Award (in 2015). JOSEPH A. TURNER 2022 ASNT Fellow Joseph A. Turner, PhD, is currently the Robert W. Brightfelt Professor of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and Director of the Nano- Engineering Research Core Facility (NERCF) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). He received his BS (Eng. Sci.) and MEng (Eng. Sci. Mech.) degrees from Iowa State University and his PhD (Theoretical and Appl. Mech.) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). After a postdoctoral experience at UIUC, he served as an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow at the Fraunhofer Institute for Nondestructive Testing (IZFP) in Saarbrücken, Germany, before joining UNL. He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and recipient of the Wilhelm Bessel Forschungspreis from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The expertise within his QUISP (Quantitative Ultrasonics for Inspection and Structural Prognosis) group is focused on ultrasonic inspection and microstructure characterization. Their research is important for the safety of manufactured components and has been applied to aerospace materials, railroad track and rolling stock, and additive manu- facturing of metals among others. Turner is currently an Associate Technical Editor of Research in Nondestructive Evaluation and serves as the chair of the ASNT Publications Committee of the Research Council.
