Kaitlyn Grantner has joined ASNT as an Instructional Designer. Grantner has experience working within learning and devel- opment for a tier-one automotive manufacturer and most recently an association serving finance profes- sionals. She completed her MS in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning through Boise State University. Grantner currently lives in Kentucky with her husband and a variety of animals. She enjoys showing her dogs, reading, and a variety of outdoor activities. AcousticEye Ltd., a provider of noninvasive tube inspection for the global heat exchanger and boiler NDT (nondestructive testing) markets, announced that Howard Houserman has joined the company’s advisory board. A prominent figure in the NDT industry with extensive experience, particularly in the nuclear power generation field, Houserman was Past President, CEO, and Chairman of Zetec Inc., a worldwide vendor of eddy current and ultrasonic testing equipment. Prior to his long tenure at Zetec, which also included management of field operations, Houserman worked at Westinghouse as a lead engineer for steam generator inspections. APPOINTMENTS ASNT member Andy Shingledecker has started a new position with Campos EPC as the area manager for a new loca- tion coming to Tulsa, OK. INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON NONDESTRUCTIVE CHARACTERIZATION OF MATERIALS ASNT invites you to submit a proposal to present at the 17th International Symposium on Nondestructive Characterization of Materials (ISNDCM) in Zurich, Switzerland, on 15–17 August 2023. The main focus of ISNDCM is the use of NDE methods as an investigation tool to determine a material’s properties and characterize parts of materials or features detected within them. This symposium encourages presentations addressing current and future issues, covering theo- retical and experimental work. Of consid- erable interest will be state-of-the-art developments and applications where the complex nature of materials is recog- nized. Furthermore, discussions on the applications and possibilities for multitech- nique measurements of interdependent parameters and the evaluation of the data through sophisticated computer analyses are also encouraged. Abstracts should be submitted to asnt.org by 31 March 2023. SPECIAL ISSUE OF RNDE ON MACHINE LEARNING IN NDE Recent advancements in artificial intelli- gence (AI), including new strategies for capturing, storing, analyzing, and inter- preting data, have the potential to revolu- tionize the nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of materials and structures in many ways. The field of NDE can significantly benefit from new machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms, increased computer processing power, the accessi- bility of mobile internet, the availability of substantial amounts of high-quality data, and modern data storage technology. The focus of this special issue is to consolidate recent research activities that utilize existing or new AI/ML methods to advance the state of NDE. These include but are not limited to: (a) the design and development of novel algorithms adapted for NDE data acquisition, anal- ysis, modeling, or prediction (b) imple- mentation of existing AI/ML algorithms to new NDE application and (c) data-driven methods for extracting relevant informa- tion from NDE data sets compared to conventional approaches. To be considered for this special issue, manuscripts are required to demonstrate a significant contribu- tion to the field of NDE with care- fully documented methodology and results, reporting model performance compared to conventional approaches, and including relevant code in public depositories (such as GitHub) following common practices in the field of ML. ASNT RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM The American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) will hold its 31st Research Symposium 26–30 June 2023. The theme for the Symposium is “Exploring the Future of Nondestructive Evaluation.” The symposium will not only spotlight cutting- edge research but also the students who are the future of NDE research. The ASNT Research Council Program Committee seeks the following proposals: Ñ Technical presentations Ñ Student poster presentations Ñ Panel sessions Proposals should: Ñ Address important research questions Ñ Increase the knowledge and skills of scholars and industry professionals Ñ Promote the development of the NDE profession Ñ Showcase methodological rigor All session topics that are relevant to the NDE community will be considered for inclusion in the program. Submissions for the technical program must be accompanied by a two- to four- page Proceedings Paper to be consid- ered for presentation. Papers will be peer reviewed, and accepted/presented papers will be included in the conference proceedings. Each submission will be reviewed and scored by at least two peer reviewers.
