GUIDED WAVE TESTING FOR LONG-RANGE PIPELINE Guided wave testing (GW) is typically used for rapid corrosion screening of long lengths of pipeline. Here, an inspector with GUL certification compliant with ISO 9712:2012 used a GW mini system and a 4 in. solid transducer ring to perform GW to inspect for corrosion. For an elevated pipeline, one GW test location can be used to inspect using one scaffolding. For an insulated pipeline, first the insulation measuring 1 m long is removed, and then the inspector can look for corrosion under insula- tion (CUI). GW is introduced into the preliminary inspection of important pipelines of various plants, and the inspection coverage can be increased so as to assist in finding locations with corrosion.
