SCATTER CORRECTION
SOFTWARE
Scatter Correction CT is a software solu-
tion from Nikon Metrology NV (a subsid-
iary of Nikon Corp.) made to significantly
enhance image quality and measure-
ment accuracy, particularly when scan-
ning dense materials like aluminum, steel,
ceramic, and Inconel.
X-ray scatter artifacts have long
hindered the clarity of computed
tomography (CT) scans, often causing
blurred edges, false inhomogeneities,
and cloudy halos around high-density
regions. Scatter Correction CT leverages
advanced physics-based modeling to
simulate and correct these scatter effects,
providing clearer images and more
precise measurements of both internal
and external structures.

PAUT/TOFD SCANNER
The Doppler FC01 PAUT/TOFD scanner
is designed for inspecting butt welds
in plates and pipes, including those
with diameters over 6 in. (150 mm) and
flat butt welds. This versatile scanner’s
magnetic properties make it easy to posi-
tion and use, providing a straightforward
solution for weld inspections.
Compatible with flaw detector instru-
ments like the MX2, TD HandyScan, VEO,
and Mantis, the FC01 scanner offers
flexibility in different inspection setups. It
includes four probe clamps and a wheel-
type encoder, allowing for customizable
configurations for both PAUT (phased
array ultrasonic testing) and TOFD (time
of flight diffraction) probes, depending
on the specific inspection requirements.

UPGRADE OPTION
FOR WELL CAMERA
A motorized reel cable box option has
been added to the STRAHL HD Well
Camera. This upgrade eliminates the
need for manual winching. The motor-
ized winch, combined with a 200 m
reinforced cable, provides better control
over the camera’s movement, reducing
the physical effort required by operators.
Powered by AC110V-230V, the system is
built to support deep inspections with
greater reliability.
The STRAHL HD Well Camera itself
is equipped with a dual-view camera
head that has 360° rotation, providing
both straight-down and side views. It
is waterproof to 30 bars. Live video is
displayed on an integrated monitor,
with options for recording and adding
text overlays.

ULTRASONIC PULSER RECEIVER
Its powerful pulse, exceptionally
wide bandwidth, and quiet perfor-
mance have made the UT340 the
reference pulser-receiver in the most
prestigious NDT labs for over 25
years. It maximizes transducer perfor-
mance, detects very low amplitude
signals, and resolves the smallest
indications. The UT340 combines
precise pulse tuning, low-noise
amplifiers, and wide bandwidth all in
one instrument.
With the UT340, you can control pulse width in steps as small as 0.2 ns and adjust
pulse voltage in 2 V increments, allowing you to match the excitation requirements of
any transducer and dramatically increase the output signal. The UT340 operates without
attenuators, providing excellent signal-to-noise ratios and a very wide dynamic range at
all gain settings, making small reflections no longer a challenge.

DIGITAL MICROSCOPE
Evident’s DSX2000 is a fully motorized
digital microscope aimed at simplifying
material analysis and inspection work-
flows. The system integrates imaging,
measurement, analysis, and reporting, with
high-resolution imaging from macro to
micro levels, with capabilities beyond 4K.
The DSX2000 is designed to stream-
line tasks for researchers, failure analysis
engineers, and QC lab professionals. It
features automatic objective switching
through a motorized zoom head and
revolving nosepiece, and users can
quickly access seven different observa-
tion methods to find optimal viewing
conditions. The new shaded relief
method allows for the detection of fine
defects in real time. When paired with
Evident’s PRECiV™ image analysis soft-
ware, the DSX2000 offers additional
workflow improvements.

NEW GUIDELINE ON
AIR-COUPLED UT
The German Society for Non-Destructive
Testing (DGZfP) has released the “ACUT
Guideline: A Guide to Performing
Air-Coupled Ultrasonic Testing.”
Developed by the DGZfP Ultrasonic Testing
Committee’s subcommittee on air-coupled
ultrasonic testing (ACUT), the guideline
offers a comprehensive introduction to
noncontact ultrasonic testing. Martin Fuchs,
a development engineer at SONOTEC
GmbH, played a key role in its creation.
Available for free download since January
2025, the document covers essential
topics such as the fundamentals of ACUT,
testing system requirements, methods,
application areas, and data evaluation.
ACUT utilizes ultrasound waves trans-
mitted through air, making it ideal for
inspecting sensitive, porous, or hard-to-
reach materials like composites, wood,
foams, and ceramics. Fuchs emphasized
that the guideline aims to enhance ACUT
adoption and optimize testing processes,
particularly where traditional contact-
based methods are not suitable.

professionals with the skills needed to
assess concrete structures using NDT.
This video focuses on NDT techniques
for evaluating the integrity and durability
of concrete, a critical aspect of property
valuation.
The video covers key NDT methods
such as ultrasonic pulse velocity, rebound
hammer testing, and core sampling,
explaining how each method assesses
concrete’s strength and condition. It’s a
