24 UNCERTAINTY ANALYSIS AND
QUANTIFICATION FOR NONDESTRUCTIVE
EVALUATION
ZI LI AND YIMING DENG
Uncertainty analysis and quantification (UA&UQ) are redefining
NDE—enhancing reliability, enabling predictive maintenance, and
advancing automation through AI, digital twins, and real-time data
for smarter, safer, and more informed inspections.

42 UNCERTAINTY EVALUATION OF CRACK
SIZING CAPABILITY INCORPORATING MODEL-
BASED INVERSION APPLIED TO BOLT-HOLE
EDDY CURRENT INSPECTIONS
JOHN C. ALDRIN, DOYLE MOTES, MALLORI HUGHES, DAVID
FORSYTH, ELIAS SABBAGH, HAROLD A. SABBAGH, R. KIM
MURPHY, GEORGE NUXOLL, CHRISTINE KNOTT, AND ERIC A.
LINDGREN
Innovative BHEC techniques enable more accurate crack sizing
in multilayer fastener sites, enhancing maintenance decisions
through improved model calibration, inversion, and material-
specific surrogate models.
57 MULTIVARIATE PROBABILITY OF DETECTION
MODELING INCLUDING CATEGORICAL
VARIABLES AND HIGHER-ORDER RESPONSE
MODELS
CHRISTINE E. KNOTT, CHRISTINE SCHUBERT KABBAN, AND
JOHN C. ALDRIN
A new methodology extends probability of detection (POD)
modeling to include multiple variables and interactions,
enabling more accurate â vs. a analysis using advanced statistical
transformations and simulations.
73 PROBABILISTIC SIZING OF A FATIGUE CRACK
ON TYPE 304 AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL
FROM EDDY CURRENT SIGNALS
TAKUMA TOMIZAWA AND NORITAKA YUSA
Using eddy current signals and a Bayesian inverse algorithm, this
study probabilistically estimates fatigue crack size in stainless steel,
accounting for electromagnetic property changes from damage.
