APPOINTMENTS
Peter Pi was appointed International Sales
Manager at The Gill Corp. (El Monte, CA) in January.
With more than a decade of experience in the aero-
space sector, Pi brings deep knowledge and exper-
tise that The Gill Corp. said will be instrumental in
serving airlines, maintenance, repair and overhaul
(MRO) companies, and OEMs throughout the China-
Asia-Pacific region.
RETIREMENTS
After a decade of dedicated service, Dale Brosius
has announced his impending retirement from the
Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing
Innovation (IACMI), effective 1 July 2025. Brosius is
currently Executive VP and Chief Commercialization
Officer (CCO) for IACMI.
DEATHS
Jay Kumler, President of Jenoptik’s North
American business and Jenoptik Optical Systems,
passed away on 10 February 2025, at age 61.
Kumler served in those roles at Jenoptik for
many years. As a member of the Jenoptik Executive
Management Committee, he actively shaped the
development of Jenoptik’s photonics-based busi-
ness in the US.
“Not only did Jay have a huge impact on our
company, but he was also a distinguished scholar,
a passionate entrepreneur, and an inspiring mentor
to many startups and new talents in the entire
photonics industry,” said Stefan Traeger, President
and CEO of Jenoptik AG.
Kumler earned a BS in Physics from Miami
University (Oxford, OH) and a MS in Optics from the
University of Rochester (New York). He designed
optical systems for United Technologies and Bell
Laboratories before founding Coastal Optical
Systems in 1991, which Jenoptik acquired in 2001.
With nearly 40 years in optics and photonics,
Kumler published 20 technical papers, book chap-
ters, and patents. He was an SPIE Fellow, served
on the SPIE Board of Directors, and was a founding
sponsor of the SPIE Startup Challenge, which is held
during the Photonics West trade fair every year. He
also served on the Advisory Board of the Luminate
Accelerator and loved mentoring younger optical
engineers and entrepreneurs.
Kumler regularly spoke on photonics and was
passionate about advancing the industry. He was
especially proud of his contributions to the Hubble
Space Telescope, NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover,
and the X Taara wireless internet terminal, which was
named a TIME magazine “Best Invention of 2024.”
NOTICE OF INTENT TO REVISE ASNT BYLAWS
In accordance with the ASNT Bylaws, Article VII: Amendments and Revisions, Section 1 –
Proposals to Amend or Revise the Bylaws, this is to notify the members of ASNT’s intent
to revise the Bylaws as described below.
The Executive Committee proposes the following changes:
▶ Combine the positions of President and Chair of the Board, under the title of President.
▶ Change the terms of office for President and Vice President from one year each to two
years each.
▶ Eliminate the position of Immediate Past Chair.
▶ Add the President of ASNT Foundation to the Executive Committee.
Members may submit questions or comments on the proposal by 16 April to Secretary
Jill Ross at secretary@asnt.org. The Board will review all feedback before voting. All
submissions and responses will be posted on ASNT’s website. The revision will be
adopted with a two-thirds vote of the Directors, excluding the CEO.
