3D VISUAL INSPECTION
FOR AEROSPACE
NDT instructor and Level III Luis Antonio González recently led a class on the use and
management of a video borescope for the inspection of turbines and engine compo-
nents within the aeronautical field, using Real3D™ visual technology. The application
of 3D visual inspection provides the ability to enhance the interpretation and evalua-
tion of the results obtained during the inspection. This is achieved by the possibility of
dimensioning the discontinuities found with greater precision and accuracy. The tech-
nique employs a point cloud and tools that allow placing measurement cursors on the
actual areas and receiving the conditions of the identified damages.
Visualizations and measurements through 3D visual inspection provide a solid foun-
dation for decision-making in the aeronautical field. This approach not only improves
the safety of aircraft but also results in significant savings by allowing a more precise
assessment of the condition of turbines or engines. This process helps to ensure that
an aircraft meets the necessary standards to guarantee the safety of its users.
