AMERICAN NATIONAL DRAFT STANDARDS PROJECT INITIATION ANSI procedures require notification by ANSI- accredited standards developers of the initiation and scope of activities expected to result in new or revised American National Standards. The following is a list of proposed actions and new standards that have been received recently from accredited standards developers. To view information about additional standards for which a project initiation notification has been submitted, and to search approved American National Standards, please visit ansi.org, which is a database of standards information. Note that this database is not exhaustive. BSR/ASNT CP-106-202x, Nondestructive Testing Qualification and Certification of Personnel. This is an identical national adoption of ISO 9712:2012 and revision of ANSI/ASNT CP-106 (ISO 9712-2012)-2018. This standard specifies requirements for principles for the qualification and certification of personnel who perform industrial nondestructive testing (NDT). BSR/AWS C3.5M/C3.5-202x, Specification for Induction Brazing. This is a revision of ANSI/ AWS C3.5M/C3.5-2016-AMD1. This specification provides the minimum fabrication, equipment, and process procedure requirements, as well as inspection requirements for the induction brazing of steels, copper, copper alloys, and heat- and corrosion-resistant alloys and other materials that can be adequately induction brazed (the induction brazing of aluminum alloys is addressed in AWS C3.7M/C3.7, Specification for Aluminum Brazing). This specification provides criteria for classifying induction-brazed joints based on loading and the consequences of failure and quality- assurance criteria defining the limits of accept- ability in each class. The specification defines acceptable induction brazing equipment, materials, and procedures, as well as the required inspection for each class of joint. BSR/ASNT CP-105-202x, Standard Topical Outlines for Qualification of Nondestructive Testing Personnel. This is a revision of ANSI/ ASNT CP-105-2020. An essential element in the effectiveness of nondestructive testing (NDT) is the qualification of the personnel who are responsible for and who perform NDT. Formal training is an important and necessary element in acquiring the skills necessary to effectively perform nondestructive tests. The American Society for Nondestructive Testing Inc. (ASNT) has, therefore, undertaken the preparation and publication of this standard, which specifies the body of knowledge to be used as part of a training program for qualifying and certifying NDT personnel. BSR/ASNT CP-189-202x, Qualification and Certification of Nondestructive Testing Personnel. This is a revision of ANSI/ASNT CP-189-2020. This standard applies to personnel whose specific tasks or jobs require appropriate knowledge of the technical principles under- lying nondestructive testing (NDT) methods for which they have responsibilities within the scope of their employment. These specific tasks or jobs include, but are not limited to, performing, specifying, reviewing, monitoring, supervising, and evaluating NDT work. CALL FOR COMMENT ON PROPOSALS LISTED The public comment period has passed for the following draft American National Standards, which are currently in review. BSR/ASME B30.16-202x, Overhead Underhung and Stationary Hoists. This is a revision of ANSI/ASME B30.16-2017. Volume B30.16 includes provisions that apply to the construc- tion, installation, operation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of overhead underhung and stationary hoists, including hand-chain-operated, electric-powered, and air-powered chain and wire rope hoists used for, but not limited to, vertical lifting and lowering of freely suspended, unguided loads that consist of equipment and materials. BSR/AWS C6.3M/C6.3-202x, Recommended Practice for Friction Stir Welding. This is a new standard. This standard provides recommended practices intended to be applicable to all indus- tries for friction stir welding of aluminum and magnesium alloys and addresses design consid- erations, fabrication, and quality assurance. BSR/ASME Y14.46202x-202x, Product Definition Practices for Additive Manufacturing. This is a new standard. This standard covers the definitions of terms and features unique to additive manufacturing (AM) technologies with recommendations for their uniform specification in product definition data and related documents. BSR/AWS C3.6M/C3.6-202x AMD2, Specification for Furnace Brazing. This is a revision and redesignation of ANSI/AWS C3.6M/ C3.6:2016, ANSI/AWS C3.6M/C3.6-2019 AMD1. This specification provides the minimum fabrica- tion, equipment, material, and process procedure requirements, as well as inspection requirements for the furnace brazing of steels, copper, copper alloys, and heat- and corrosion-resistant alloys, and other materials that can be adequately furnace brazed (the furnace brazing of aluminum alloys is addressed in AWS C3.7M/C3.7, Specification for Aluminum Brazing). This specifica- tion provides criteria for classifying furnace-brazed joints based on loading and the consequences of failure and quality assurance criteria defining the limits of acceptability in each class. This specification defines acceptable furnace brazing equipment, materials, and procedures, as well as the required inspection for each class of joint. BSR/AWS D1.7/D1.7M-202x, Guide for Strengthening and Repairing Existing Structures. This is a revision of ANSI/AWS D1.7/ D1.7M:2010. This guide provides information on strengthening and repairing existing struc- tures. Included are sections on weldability, eval- uation of existing welds, testing and sampling, heat straightening, and damage repair. BSR/ASME BPVC Section VIII-202x, Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels. This is a revision of ANSI/ASME BPVC Section VIII-2021. This section contains mandatory requirements, specific prohibitions, and nonmandatory guidance for pressure vessel materials, design, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing, certification, and pressure relief. The code does not address all aspects of these activities, and those aspects which are not specifically addressed should not be considered prohibited. BSR/ASME HST-3-202x, Performance Standard for Lever Hoists. This is a revision of ANSI/ ASME HST-3-2017. This standard establishes performance requirements for chain, wire rope, and web-strap lever hoists for lifting, pulling, and tensioning applications. The specifications and information in this standard apply to lever hoists of the following types: (1) ratchet-and- pawl operation with (a) roller-type load chain lifting medium, (b) welded-link-type load-chain SCANNER | STANDARDSUPDATE 18 M A T E R I A L S E V A L U A T I O N A P R I L 2 0 2 2
lifting medium, (c) web-strap-type lifting medium, and (d) wire-rope-type lifting medium (2) friction-brake operation with (a) roller-type load chain, (b) welded-link-type load chain, (c) web-strap-type lifting medium, and (d) wire-rope-type lifting medium. The require- ments of this standard shall be applied together with the requirements of ASME B30.21. Refer to ASME B30.21 for requirements pertaining to marking, construction, installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and operation.
