VT AND PT ON PRINCE EDWARD VIADUCT In 2020, Mistras was commissioned to conduct visual testing (VT) and liquid penetrant testing (PT) on the Prince Edward Viaduct, also known as the Bloor Viaduct, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Viaduct is a double-deck truss arch bridge that was opened on 18 October 1918. The upper level accommodates vehicles and pedestrians, and the lower level is part of the Toronto subway system. The inspector, Eric Clément, is conducting a VT inspection for rust jacking and deterioration in the protective coating and where found, following up with PT on any found defects. To complete this job, IRATA Level 1 rope access training and CAN/CGSB-48.9712 PT Level 2 certifications were required. There were some challenges involved in the project due to the length of the bridge (494 m). The bridge spans one active railway, a pedestrian footpath, the Don River, and the Don Valley Parkway, which is a major expressway connecting Toronto. Structural remediations were carried out in 2016. SUBMITTED BY ERIC CLÉMENT, MISTRAS, TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA 88 M AT E R I A L S E V A L U AT I O N N O V E M B E R 2 0 2 2
